Guide to Enable USB Debugging and Developer Option on Android : JB/KK/L/MM

One of the best features in Android is an Open Source Platform. When we talk about freedom, it is very important that, we may do anything without any restrictions and here, Open source comes in picture. Today Android covers large market due to its flexibility and given portability to users as well as developers to do customization according to their wish. On Android platform, there is “Developer Options” which gives huge power to users, who enjoy the freedom.
These options contain advanced features that can help to customize android operating system. Here, there are plenty of options like test, debug, package apps, etc. Developer options give you quick access to customize your platform and for this we can easily use this option from our personal computer via ADB (Android Debug Bridge) commands.

Developer Options Features :

Developer Options have a very unique featureonthe Android platform. Here even an average user can root or install custom ROM on android phone very easily. This option is very lucrative for android developers and geeks because this gives you the liberty to play with your device and access through personal computers or desktops.To do all these activities,first of all, we need to enter into USB Debugging mode on our android phone or tablet because without this mode we will not be able to do anything or process further.
So before we start, we need to enable these options and to enable them, we will have to follow the following steps.
Previous version of Android “Developer Options” has already visible by default

 

Developer Options on Gingerbread (Android 2.3):

Settings>> Applications>> Development>> USB Debugging

Developer Options on ICS (Android 4.0):

Settings>> Developer Options>> USB Debugging

Developer Options on JB (Android 4.1):

Settings>> Developer Options>> USB Debugging

Most useful Features that you can access under the “Developer Options” are following:
  • Show good looking screen with CPU usage on screen
  • Quick capture all bug reports
  • Draw screen layout bounds updates on GPU views and other information
  • App stress with time stamp or enable the debugging options
  • Enable debugging over USB

How to make Developer Options and USB Debugging enable on Android :

The fact here we need to know is that the developer options is situated at the main core center of Android development, which cannot be removed until Android remains an open source environment. For this sole purpose, the mere change that has been brought by the Android 4.2 is the availability to hide them by default and to make it available you will have to do some extra efforts.
  • Go to Settings > About
  • If you are having a Samsung Galaxy S3, S4, Tab 3, Note 8.0 or any other device of Galaxy having Android 4.2 or say Android 4.3, then go to Settings> More/General Tab>About
  • If you are having Galaxy note 3 or Note 2 along with Android 4.3, go to Settings>General>About and tap seven times on build version.
  • Then scroll down to Build number and tap there for seven times.
  • Here will see the message, “You are now a developer!” If you are having Galaxy S4 or any other Samsung device, then the message will be something like this, “Developer mode has been enabled!”

  • Now you may go back to main settings and will find there Developer Options.

  • When you will tap on Developer options, then also mark the given box before USB debugging to make it enable.

  • Later on if you want to disable USB Debugging mode, you may uncheck the box.
  • To make the developer options enable, go to Settings>Developer Options> ON/OFF.

How to make USB debugging enable on HTC devices :

If you are in possession of HTC One Max, HTC One, HTC One M8 or some other HTC devices with Android 4.4, 4.2, 5, 6 etc., here is the way to enable Developer options on your phone.
  1. Settings>About>Software Information > More
  2. Tap on the Build Number 7 times.

3. You will find the message “You are now a developer!”

Hiding developer options

When you activate developer options on your device once, it remains visible in Android 4.2, 4.3 and 4.4.
